Art Psychotherapy / Art Therapy

It is not uncommon if you’re struggling with an eating disorder, anxiety, depression, post- traumatic stress disorder or serious trauma to have significant difficulty connecting with your feelings. Those with eating disorders report that restricting, binging or purging helps them disconnect from their feelings, feelings that may otherwise be too terrifying or uncomfortable for them to tolerate. Talking about these feelings can be just as frightening for some especially if you’re a Neurodivergent (ND) and your words are often twisted or misunderstood.

Access to your own emotional life becomes off limits during times of stress and overwhelm and this is possibly why a great deal of Magical Women turn to the arts. In psychotherapy, it is the goal of the practitioner to establish a safe, non-judgmental, consistent and trusting relationship with patients in order for them to be able to begin to connect with feelings that have been distorted by symptoms and chaotic emotional affect.  For some, it takes significant time to build this trust and the use of art therapy provides an alternative process to help you safely access feelings and experiences that may otherwise be too painful to talk about.

Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages and who are ND or/and NT.

We are Art Therapy professionals who may meet the needs of ND clients more naturally because we are trained, we are committed to creating relaxed spaces that remove the risk found in NT situations and we approach art therapy as a creative process involved in artistic self-expression that helps people to resolve conflicts and barriers, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress and overwhelm, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, so that you can achieve insight.
